Weather and Exposure Stresses - Slide 1

These pines in a Christmas tree plantation are showing the typical scorch symptoms of severe winter drying damage. They lose a lot of moisture due to their full exposure in the winter, but they can't replace the moisture because the ground is frozen. Most of this damage becomes obvious in the early spring to summer.
