Diseases of Spruce - Cytospora Canker

Symptoms of scattered branch dieback, particularly on lower branches.

Cankers, localized dead areas on branches or the main stem, often appear sunken, may have a ridge of callus, and exude sap.

Cankers girdle branches or the main stem and cause tip dieback from the point of cankering outward.

Cankers may be hard to spot because they are covered with sap.
