CUES: Center for Urban Ecology and Sustainability

Diagnosis Case: Elm

Since the Elm Leaf Beetle feeds on the undersurface of leaves and pupates at the base of elm trees, you will not see galleries (tunnels) with Elm Leaf Beetles. However, both the larvae of the Native Elm Beetle and the European Elm Leaf Beetle live within the galleries in weak or dead elms.

*** To help identify which beetle may be doing damage to the elm, look closely at the galleries formed in the bark.
